Shanghai DS Building Materials Co. Ltd., was founded in 2005 by Dr. rer.nat. DAI Shibing, who got the doctor degree in Germany. With its headquarter in Shanghai, the company is expanding from a trading agent into an internationally oriented corporate with its own research and development department, production, imports and exports network in China, and set up subsidiaries and agencies gradually in many cities of China, including Beijing, Tian’jin, Shenyang, Hong Kong etc. The company has its own import and export license and be the exclusive importer of PPG-Coatings Deutschland GmbH, Germany for joinery and timber protection.

Starting from importing timber protective and decorative technology from Germany, Shanghai DS Building has been dedicated in restoration of historic architecture and monuments through research and development, production, technical training and other related services. The company has  already developed over 20 kinds products that got core intellectual property right, ranging from surface cleaning, paint stripping, impregnation consolidation, water repellent, restoration brick powder, stone refitting and repair etc. Some of them have been applied patents in China.

DS Building has first-hand over 15 years Chinese and Foreign historic building inspection data and information. Besides the cooperation and supporting from German technical team, we also get sponsors from the Country’s and Shanghai Science and Technology Commission and over 40 projects from partner institutions, like Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage.  From 2008 Shanghai DS Building Materials Co. Ltd. becomes a partner laboratory of College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP), Tongji University, sponsored by China National Key Technology R & D Programme (Grant No. 2006BAJO3A07-03-03) and Shanghai Governmental Pujiang  R & D Programme (Grant No. 08PJ1430300), and the DS Building turns out to be the most professional company in protection materials and techniques for preservation and restoration of historic architecture and monuments in China.

In the past 5 years, DS Building has supplied its products and techniques to many important architectural restoration projects in China, such as  consolidation of Earthen City Wall of PingYao, World Heritage, Shanxi; Restoration of  Golden Water Marble  Bridge in front of Tian’an Men, Beijing; Refitting of Natural Lime Stone of Hua Shan Pictographs, Guangxi; restoration of preserved buildings in Xintiandi and the Bund, Shanghai; special painting works for timber doors and windows in Historical Exhibition Museum of Shanghai Yimin Foods Group; and parquet protection for National Stadium—Bird’s Nest in Beijing.
